Local Artist Tom Rogers Brings Mural to Life!

We had a wonderful turnout for Public Art Day on November 10th, 2024, for an afternoon of fun at Lexington Manor Passive Park!

Visitors had an amazing opportunity to meet artist Tom Rogers of Flying Rabbit Art and watch him at work!

Tom’s incredible design was chosen through popular vote from a number of other amazing submissions. Rogers has since been busy prepping and painting the south facing wall at the Three Notch Theatre, adding a new chapter to the history of Tulagi Place.

The Public Art Day was also host to a Sidewalk Chalk Extravaganza for visitors of all ages. Guiding signs decorated the paths with suggestions of artistic ideas, such as “Paint your Favorite Flower”, “Words of Kindness”, and “Show Some Love for Lexington Park!”. Delicious ice cream from The Salted Scoop was enjoyed by many!

This community event was held at Lexington Manor Passive Park and co-hosted by St. Mary’s County Arts Council, St. Mary’s County Recreation & Parks, St. Mary’s County Museum Division, and the Unified Committee for Afro-American Contributions.

We would like to send a special thank you to The Newtowne Players for their support of the mural installation at the theatre!

Depending on the weather, the Tulagi Place Mural is expected to be completed later this year or in early 2025. Sign up for our monthly e-newsletter for news about the future ribbon cutting!
