Call for Art
General Information:
A special commemorative ornament has been created by the Leonardtown Business Association (LBA) on an annual basis for the past few years.
The ornaments are sold at local shops as a fundraiser to support LBA sponsored activities such as free concerts plus other community events.
This year, the LBA has partnered with the St. Mary’s County Arts Council (SMCAC) to organize a Call for Art for the 2024 ornament design.
Submissions from local high school students will be considered.
Submission Deadline:
Tuesday, October 15, 2024, by midnight.
Guidelines:
Artist must be a St. Mary’s County high school student of any grade level from 9th thru 12th. Home school students may also apply.
Up to five submissions are allowed per artist.
ALL art must be of a family-friendly nature suitable for all audiences.
Designs must be submitted in .pdf, .jpg, or .jpeg format. Each image must be labeled with student's last name followed by name of design (i.e. Davis Snowman in Leonardtown).
Designs should not be overly detailed as the ornaments will be no larger than 3 to 4 inches in diameter, depending on the final shape selected.
Designs should reflect Leonardtown in some aspect.
The text “Leonardtown” and “2024” is optional to be added by the artist. If not part of the original design, the text and year will be added by St. Mary’s County Arts Council.
The SMCAC/LBA may work with the artist to address possible suggested minor modifications. The artist plus parent/guardian will be able to view and approve the final proof before production.
The ultimate ornament shape (flat vs. ball), size, and color will be chosen by the organizers based upon the best fit for the selected design.
Notification Timeline:
A receipt of confirmation will be automatically sent once the submission form is completed.
The winning design will be announced on the SMC Arts Council website by October 22, 2024.

Permissions Section:
If selected, the artist and parent/guardian provide permission to St. Mary’s County Arts Council, the Leonardtown Business Association, the Town of Leonardtown, plus other relevant partners, to use the design for the collectible ornament plus related promotional purposes.
$100 will be awarded to the artist in appreciation of the use of the design!
To optimize the image appearance, only the design will be applied to the ornament (not the artist’s name).
The artist’s first and last name will be recognized in written credit, verbal mentions, and related attributions where applicable. The artist may add this project as part of his/her professional portfolio.
An invitation to the 2024 Leonardtown Christmas on the Square event on Friday evening, November 29th, for the artist and family will be extended and recognition made there as well!
