Advocating for the arts - Maryland Arts Day 2025!

Join St. Mary’s County Arts Council (SMCAC) and our partner organizations in advocating for the arts on Thursday, February 13th, 2025! Our staff and board members will be at Maryland Arts Day in Annapolis to show our unwavering support.

Registration is open now through February 11th for this special event. If you are unable to attend in person, a simple email to one of our legislators is greatly appreciated!

Why are we asking for your support?

YOU have the power to protect the future of Maryland’s arts community!

Governor Wes Moore’s FY2026 Budget Reconciliation and Financing Act (BRFA) proposal includes a concerning recommendation to completely eliminate the Arts Stabilization Act (ASA), a 30-year-old funding formula which has safeguarded public arts funding.

This act has been a driving force for Maryland’s recognition as a national leader in arts investment.

Why does this really matter?

  • The ASA provides a solid foundation for Maryland’s arts sector, supporting nearly $13 billion in annual economic impact, over 80,000 jobs, and $7.3 billion in arts-worker compensation.

  • This historic legislation ensures equitable funding across every county and Baltimore City, making the arts accessible to all Marylanders.

  • Rescinding the ASA risks decades of progress and bipartisan support that has helped sustain a thriving and resilient arts ecosystem.
