Meet the Makers - April 2021
Welcome to our “Monthly Mini Feature”! We are highlighting different local artisans and crafters who have been busy imagining, creating, dreaming, and doing. During this particularly difficult time please remember our artists and small businesses who support them as they have been and always will be valuable contributors to our quality of life, our economy, and one of the many important of facets of our community.
Our Featured Maker of the Month for April 2021 is Lonnie Hampton of Lonnie’s Creations!
Lonnie moved to St. Mary’s County just about a year and a half ago having relocated from Texas. Now retired, she has found the formerly elusive time to dive in and dedicate to her artwork. Lonnie has been exploring different media with her favorites being acrylic paints on canvas, especially with combinations of big and bright color palettes.
Lonnie has quickly become known for her “happy” paintings, often depicting 2-D springtime fields of rainbow flowers, golden sunsets, fluttering yellow butterflies, and smiling snowmen. Be it silhouettes of ballerinas, an abstract swoosh of sky over snow-dusted trees, or a lighthouse peeking from the seas, Lonnie’s pieces are often striking yet simultaneously serene.
