Meet the Makers - March 2021
Welcome to our “Monthly Mini Feature”! We are highlighting different local artisans and crafters who have been busy imagining, creating, dreaming, and doing. During this particularly difficult time please remember our artists and small businesses who support them as they have been and always will be valuable contributors to our quality of life, our economy, and one of the many important of facets of our community.
Our Featured Maker of the Month for March 2021 is Anja Zander of ZanaWoodArtZ!
Anja originally grew up in a small town in Germany near the Dutch border. In 2012 she moved with her husband to Saint Leonard in Southern Maryland where she had an exciting opportunity to work with wood. As a hobbyist alongside her career as an archaeologist, Anja quickly realized that woodworking was more than just a passion and something that she wanted to devote more time and energy towards. In 2017 Mrs. Zander brought her dreams to life when she opened her full-time woodworking/art business!
Anja offers a wide variety of beautifully shaped and polished wood art and functional items. Her collection includes wall pieces, sculptures, statement art, abstract wood photography, home and kitchen décor, and also handcrafted jewelry.
As a nature lover, Anja also creates bee and bird houses, including a special “Bird’s Bed & Breakfast”. Our featured artist usually works with media such as domestic wood and driftwood combined with other materials such as sea glass, fossils, ink, acrylics, watercolors and/or metal leaf. Each piece is one-of-a-kind and unique in style and content.
